The Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban missile crisis is a dark time in American history, and started with the beginning of communism in Cuba. This specific addition to communist Countries was so important because of how close it was to America.
- The Cuban Revolution of 1959 was lead by Fidel Castro, and was because the Americas had supported Cuba's corrupt regime under leader Fulgencio Batista
- The newly communist Cuba teamed with the Soviets
- The Bay of Pigs was the failed invasion of Cuba, Kennedy refused to send in support
- In 1962, the Soviets began to put nuclear weapons in Cuba, these were eventually noticed by U2 spy planes
- Robert Kennedy (JFK's brother) was the attorney general of the United States, and chose that doing a naval blockade was the most efficient choice.
- The Security Council agrees
- Ships turn around at the quarentine
- Kruschev send two letters to Kennedy
- Brinkmanship ensues!
- The Soviets eventually pull out of Cuba, and the States agrees to remove the missiles in Turkey
- This directly lead to the Partial test ban theory on 1962
