Island Hopping
Island Hopping was used throughout the Pacific during 1942-1943. This was an American tactic used after Pearl Harbor and two major battles.
- At the same time as Pearl Harbor, the Japanese attacked many other Countries ( Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Dutch East Indies)
- They attacked these Countries mainly for oil.
- There are two major battles, including the Battle of Midway and Battle of the Coral Seas.
- Battle of the Coral Seas: In May 1942, this is the first battle where the two aircraft carriers never saw each other.
- Battle of Midway: June 1942, a huge American victory. The American Army shot down 4 Japanese carriers to 1 American.
- The American began "Island Hopping" throughout the Pacific (Guadalcanal)
- In the battle of Leyte Gulf, in the Philippines there was the largest Naval battle in history. The Japanese lose half of their remaining fleet and 4 more carriers.
