The Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall was literally put up over night by the government of East Berlin. It was a blockade from East to West and was virtually impassable.
- Approximately 3 million people had been fleeing from East to West Berlin, these people were mainly doctors, teachers, business men and scientists.
- Known as the "brain drain"
- Khrushchev wants Kennedy to pull out of West Berlin so it can be a free city, Kennedy refuses and increases the strength
- In retaliation, Nikita builds a wall around the entire west Berlin.
- Kennedy and Khrushchev were both accused of being too soft in Berlin, and they both increased the tests of nuclear weapons
- In 1963, Kennedy goes to Berlin and makes his famous speech "Ich bin ein Berliner", which literally translates to "I am a Berliner" or "I am a donut". His speech was in the defense of Berlin
